Welcome to Quinta de Santa Isabel

At 7 km from Chaves and just 5 km from the Spanish border, you will find the village of Santo Estêvão, with its medieval castle that has witnessed the marriage of D. Teresa, daughter of Sancho I, and became the kingdom’s capital during the reign of Afonso III. It was in Santo Estêvão’s castle that the one they would call Rainha Santa Isabel stayed on the eve of marrying D. Dinis.

Quinta de Santa Isabel, located on the edge of this village abode of kings of the early history of Portugal, is a medieval building, maintaining the characteristic outline of rural houses of the period, with traditional covered porches where once the harvest dried and the maize was husked.

Quinta de Santa Isabel consists of five apartments with accommodation for 2-6 people, furnished in rustic style with fireplaces and all comfort, each one disposing of a kitchen.

Nowadays, on the Quinta, after the garden at the beginning of the slope lies an old vineyard, where you can enjoy noble species of grapes, which the soft sun on the slope facing west sweetens. At the summit of the Quinta, a cool and dense forest of pine and oak trees cut by granite cliffs invites to quiet walks.

The region has a large supply of thermal spas, situated along hills of Trás-os-Montes. The warm waters of Chaves and gassy waters of Vidago are only a few kilometers from the Quinta. The discovery of the granite hills can be further enriched with visits to restaurants where you can enjoy the rich regional cuisine.
